Which vision correction surgery is right for me?
LASIK (Laser in-Situ Keratomileusis) is the most common surgical procedure. LASIK corrects vision by using a laser to reshape the corneal tissue beneath the surface of the cornea. This allows light to focus more directly on the retina, correcting most common vision problems, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
At The Wise Vision Group, we take the traditional LASIK procedure further with the state of the art CustomVue VISX WavefrontT procedure. This means that we are able to customize your laser vision correction surgery - at no additional charge.
Just like a fingerprint, your vision is 100 percent unique to your eyes. Using traditional LASIK procedures, doctors were only able to use standard measurements to correct vision. By making a 3-D map of your eye with the Wavefront scan, we can measure and correct the unique imperfections of your vision.
We further customize your LASIK procedure by using the IntraLase LASIK method when appropriate. The IntraLase method uses a laser to make the corneal flap, not a blade. This means that the most severe complications associated with LASIK can be eliminated.
PRK or Photo-Refractive Keratectomy treats refractive errors by removing tissue from the surface of the cornea. It's a good alternative for patients who have thin or steep corneas, and are not candidates for LASIK surgery.
RLE or Refractive Lens Exchange is a non-laser corrective procedure where the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens, similar to cataract surgery. This procedure corrects hardening of the lens, a problem associated with the natural aging of the eye.
For extremely nearsighted patients, we offer a promising new procedure using the VerisyseT Intraocular Lens -- called "one of the most amazing inventions of 2004" by Time magazine.
